How does the Phil Parker Lightning Process TM work?

The Lightning Process seminar is designed to teach you

  • how your brain and body work together
  • how you can use this connection to powerfully influence your health and life.

You can find out more details by watching the Lightning Process film, by reading the information below and The Introduction to the Lightning Process book.

Can anyone learn it?

Yes, the Lightning Process has been designed to be simple enough for anyone to use- we've trained people aged between 7 and 87, those confined to bed, those who can't tolerate chemicals, light, sound, or e.m. radiation, as well as those working full time.

Much like taking a trip on a plane, as a passenger it seems simple enough to fly from one place to another. However this is only possible due to the pilot’s years of training; similarly, the apparent simplicity of applying The Phil Parker Lightning Process TM can only be achieved by being trained by Registered Practitioner who will have a comprehensive knowledge of this unique field.

Look for this Registration logo to ensure you are seeing someone qualified, insured and competent.

What is covered during the training?

The curriculum of the seminars focuses on two main phases:

1.       Discovery

2.       Change

Phase one- Discovery: 6 training areas

1.       Beliefs: Discovering the positive and negative power of beliefs on our health and life.

2.       Influence :

a.       Discovering which areas of our health and life we feel we can influence, and which areas we feel we have no say in.

b.       Discovering if there are new ways to approach these issues which give us more choice and more influence over our well being and future.

3.       Inner dialogue: Discovering how much of our inner dialogue is useful and how much is destructive and limits our health and future.

4.       Body Posture: Discovering how the way we use our bodies and carry ourselves influences how our body works and how we feel.

5.       Expectations alter physiology: Discovering how much we create valuable or destructive expectations about what’s about to happen next which directly prepare our body physically for those imagined events.

6.       Responsibility and blame: Distinguishing the difference between being responsible for your health and well being and feeling as if you are to blame for it.

Phase two- Change: 3 training areas

  1. How to change any of the above that are keeping you stuck.
  2. How to make complicated things simple.
  3. How to dramatically change our perspective and focus when we need to.

If would like more details, there is a brief breakdown of all the 3 day's course content at the bottom of this page.

THE PHYSIOLOGICAL CATCH 22

There are many elements that make up the Lightning Process, but one of the most important is called the "Physiological Catch 22". This is derived from Phil Parker’s identification of the following downward spiral in M.E sufferers. Recent research by Dr Bruun Wyller has concurred with the physiological findings suggested by the Lightning Process model:

1. They fall ill due to an initial 'bug' or some external factor that precipitates their M.E. This onset can be variable from one individual to another- it commonly includes responses to operations, vaccines, extreme temperatures and even emotional stress. This onset “event”, whatever it’s cause, results in creating an extreme physiological stress on their immune system.

2. They feel very unwell. The symptoms were either very strong or lasted so long that they begin to wonder if they'd ever get better. They consult G.P's and specialists in a number of fields, but nobody seems to have any answers, or provides much useful help, and the illness continues.

3. The ongoing physical response to the original “event” combined now with these additional emotional concerns, understandably, creates an even greater and sustained physical stress/arousal response. This in turn further stimulates the Sympathetic Nervous System and the adrenaline, nor adrenaline, dopamine and cortisol axis. A sustained arousal of this system has been long known to have a detrimental effect on many other body systems, but of special importance in M.E is the disruption this causes to normal immune system function. This then creates a positive feedback loop, taking the M.E client back to step 2.

Research

Dr. Bruun Wyller has published some interesting articles which concur with the clinical findings of the Phil Parker Lightning Process which you can find here (Ref 1 and Ref 2). His most recent paper in conjunction with Hege R. Eriksen, Kirsti Malterud who are university researchers from Bergen, can be found here (Ref 3).

Dr. Bruun Wyller, who is considered to be one of Norway's leading experts on M.E, says: 'Recent research on CFS pathophysiology has revealed alterations of cardiovascular regulation and thermoregulation, characterized by enhanced sympathetic nervous activity and increased secretion of epinephrine.
These findings indicate a state of permanent distress response – sustained arousal – in CFS patients.
Based upon our findings, we have formulated a theory of sustained arousal in CFS, which seems to correspond quite neatly to the theoretical considerations underlying the Lightning Process.'

LP research- Success rates.

We are pleased to report that we are currently undertaking research establishing our evidence base from clients seen. We are also in positive dialogue with a very solid Norwegian research group who has contacted us about doing Randomised Controlled Trials, using established scientifically valid research protocols and experienced established researchers from acknowledged research institutes, which we feel is the best strategy for reliability and acknowledgement.

More details will be released once the findings are collated and some conclusions are drawn, as that will be the most appropriate time to discuss the research's impact.

Theoretical basis of the Lightning Process

The established scientific theories that underpin the Lightning Process are

Is it like any other therapy?

No, it is different in a number of ways. Firstly it's a training program rather than a therapy and secondly this the only program we are aware of that is developed from a combination of NLP, osteopathy, self hypnosis and life coaching. And because it's a training program, once you've learnt the tools, you only need to contact your trainer as and when you feel you want some suupoprt in using those tools. That means freedom from long term, endless "therapy" appointments or expensive on-going nutrition or restrictive dietary regimes.

Is it like Reverse or Mickel therapy, or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?

We are often asked if the Lightning Process is linked to Reverse or Mickel therapy or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

The simple answer is that The Lightning Process is no way allied to or developed from or in conjunction with those approaches or the designers of those approaches. It's completely unrelated.

Is it Positive Thinking?

No, unfortunately Positive Thinking on its own is unlikely to make you recover from M.E. or the many other issues that the Lightning Process is used for. The Lightning Process is not just another name for positive thinking.

More details about the course content

Using the Lightning Process’ technique of combining particular body movements and postures with a set of precisely targeted questions many people have got their health back into balance, quickly and successfully recovering from real illnesses that had troubled them for years.

The process is specifically tailored to an individual’s needs and abilities, and the trainee is supported and assisted by an experienced trainer throughout the seminar and afterwards as required.

Detailed description.

We know from feedback from some of our successful participants that some people would appreciate a more technical and detailed explanation of the process before undertaking it. What follows is a more in-depth breakdown of the seminars.

The 3 day training program teaches, step by step, how to influence key body systems such as the immunological, neurological and musculo-skeletal system.

It’s derived from osteopathy, NLP, hypnotherapy and life coaching

Day one:

Your trainer will help you explore which factors are preventing you from getting what you want. With the M.E seminars this includes an in-depth discussion of the complex physiology of the condition, and especially considers the role of dysfunctional adrenaline levels in the maintenance of the condition.

Your trainer will take you through the key steps of the process, individually tailoring the process to your needs and abilities. The key steps include a series of body movements, postures and core questions to stimulate new neurological pathways.

As the brain has the ability to create new pathways rapidly the changes can be achieved very quickly.

Days two and three:

Trains you further in ways to change old established neurological pathways and create and stabilise new more effective ones.
